Part5 [The house sleeping the mermaid]
Good morning.
I could’t write blog for the business trip in Fukushima.
So this time I’ll introduce [The house sleeping the mermaid] wrote by Keigo Higashino.
He is a very famous author in Japan, and most of his novel is visualized by movie and drama.
[The house sleeping the mermaid] was made a movie too with starring of Ryoko Shinohara in the last year.(I didn’t watch it...)
Ttis is story...(It includes a bit spoiler)
The family of Harima is beeing in danger because husband’s unfaithful was discovered...
Suddenly, one day the saddens accident hit by them that their daughter got caught the water accident.And doctor said 「Your daughter may be brain death.」
Once,they accept the brain death, and organ donation, but just before donation,they defuse it due to one special thing happend.
So Kaoruko start weird life with sleeping daughter...
Thoughts
This time I wraith not the thoughts but my opinion.Because this novel is too link with my real life,and there are too many point of thought-provoking.
Omit to the detail, in fact my brother in law have been in hospital in January 2019 thus to he have a big illness.
He had a surgeons that the percentage of success is less than 50%.
It succeed, and now, he is waiting to recover form condition,with dialysis.
Similar with this novel’s character, he also need a donation.
In this novel, there are some part that one child have been in hospital for hart illness,so their parents do fund-rising for donataion.
So I feel hard to read this novel.
Because I feel simpaty with Kaoruko like a having hart sick child.And also there are complicated problem about organ donation.
I introduce simply.
Firstly, brain death means that the cerebrum, (The part of perception, memory,and exercise.) brain stem （order to breath,cycle) and cerebellum （adjust exercise,posture）couldn't move.
On the other hand, vegetative state means cerebrum couldn't move, but brain stem and cerebellum can move.
Brain death and vegetative state couldn't communicate to not move cerebrum.
But most vegetative state can breath by myself, and it may recover.
Meanwhile, brain death couldn't breath by own, so withiout artificial respirator, heart will stop.
His case, there are no problem about brain, but it is difficult to breath thus to it is high presser to heart at present.
So now he have been having tracheotomy.
What most important part of this novel is that 【Whether brain death is human death or not.】
Firstly, it is common that brain death equal human death.And when a patient will be received a brain death, it is possible to organ donation.
However, in Japan, such a way of thinking is not major, hardly organ donation.
According to Japan organ network, the number of Japan’s organ donation is 315, and in USA is 24980(more than 79.3 times)
Recently, the law of organ donation was reviewed that the patient for brain death couldn’t show about organ donation, if their family agree with donation, it is possible to donate.
Moreover, yong children’s donation also allowed once it coulnd’t.
Though, in fact the number of donation doesn’t increase enough much.
In this novel, the seen that for donation,the family’s groups do the fund-raising, the cost for the organ operation is over 20billion yen.
Brain death is human death?
If patient doesn’t decide whether they want to live such a stuation or not, to continue to live with artificial respirator by parents is right?or not ?
I thought the word which used by novel's character named doctor Kondo is answer.
「My daughter sleeping forever is patient, or dead body??」
「It shouldn't decide me.」
「Then,who decide to live or not??」
「I'm not sure,and may be no one decide in the world.」
So no one decide!!
But it is freedom to how do someone feel and decide.And that feelings shouldn't disturb.
Higashino san said I think.
This idea is the pros and cons, but I think it is the very important that when if you encounter such a risky situation about someone, think about their feelings, like if I were
someone and be such a situation...
